Arsenal v Tottenham preview

Arsenal and Tottenham go head to head for the first North London Derby of the season on Sunday, with both teams enjoying successful starts to the new season and are level on points going into the crunch match.

The Gunners have won six out of seven this season in all competitions, drawing the other, and are fresh off the back of a 4-0 win over PSV on their Champions League return on Wednesday night, their first game in European football’s elite competition since 2017.

That emphatic win was the third in a row for Mikel Arteta’s side, who have also kept back to back clean sheets following their win at Everton in the Premier League last Sunday, and are aiming to go one better than the second place finish they achieved last season this time out.

Arsenal are one of three teams to have picked up 13 points out of a possible 15 this season, but their inferior goal difference to the others leaves them fourth in the table heading into the weekend, though sit just two points behind league leaders Manchester City.

Tottenham have had an enjoyable start to the season under their new manager Ange Postecoglou, who will be taking part in his first ever North London Derby, with Spurs heading into the weekend in second place in the table.

The Australian manager took over a side who finished down in eighth last season, their lowest league finish since 2009, and lost their all-time top goal scorer in the summer, who had been their leading goal getter for the past nine seasons.

An opening day 2-2 draw at fellow Londoners Brentford on the opening day of the season has quickly been forgotten, with Spurs having now won their last four league games heading into Sunday’s big derby.

Arsenal have won four of the last five North London derbies, and are unbeaten in the league against Tottenham at the Emirates since 2010.
