After nearly 66 years since its completion, Barcelona’s historic home is set to undergo renovation.

One of football’s most iconic stadiums is set to be partially demolished as they look to increase the capacity to 105,000.

A new 10,000-seat indoor sports arena is also set to be built as part of a design created by Nikken Sekkei.

Barcelona’s clash against Mallorca on Sunday night, in which they won 3-1, was their final match at home before the work takes place.

A double from Ansu Fati and a goal from Gavi ensured they left the Nou Camp in winning style.

They were also presented with league title after the victory, and fans celebrated their stadium ahead of a temporary absence.

Fireworks were launched into the night sky in the surrounding area of the ground, which will be empty next season.

Barcelona will temporarily move to the Olympic Stadium in Montjuic just a few kilometres away for the 2023/24 campaign.

They will return home the year after at 50 per cent capacity, with the stadium work set to be completed in the 2025/26 season.

There were further farewells on Sunday night as two club icons played their final games for the side.

After 721 games across all competitions, Busquets ends his trophy-laden chapter at Barcelona this summer.

Alba is also departing in the coming weeks, with the Spaniard winning a multitude of honours too.
