Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes was left in stitches after footage of his attempt at a baseball swing went viral.
The Magpies geared up for Wednesday night’s pre-season clash with Chelsea in Atlanta by stopping off for a quick game of baseball.
Eddie Howe’s stars visited Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves to try their hand at the popular US sport.
In the clip, the Brazilian is seen limbering up by jumping up and down on his toes in anticipation of hitting a home run.
However, MLB stars like Shohei Ohtani will not have too much to fear.
Guimaraes’ attempts at a big hit fell flat much to the amusement of his Newcastle teammates.
As the ball approached him, Guimaraes swung an air shot as the ball sailed past him.
Teammates revelled in his misery with one player screaming: “Strike one!”
Reacting to the clip, Guimaraes took to Twitter saying: “I swear I’m better than this small video,” alongside a host of laughing emojis.
Despite the mishap, the Brazilian was in the stands in the early hours on Thursday morning as Newcastle battled to a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
Nicolas Jackson put the Blues in front after 12 minutes before Miguel Almiron continued his good pre-season form with the equaliser on the stroke of half-time.
Almiron’s strike took on added significance as it was scored at Mercedes-Benz Arena, the home of Atlanta United where he spent three years before his move to Tyneside in 2019.
Newcastle face Brighton in the final game of their US tour on Saturday before heading back to the UK to host the Sela Cup where they take on Fiorentina and Villarreal.
