ERIK TEN HAG is “unconvinced” David de Gea should be Manchester United’s No1 next season.

That’s after the club reportedly pulled out of a contract offer to the veteran goalkeeper.

De Gea, 32, faces an uncertain future with his current deal expiring at the end of the month.

And the Mail claims boss Ten Hag is “unconvinced” De Gea can be a regular starter in the new campaign.

Should De Gea sign a new deal, he would likely be back-up to a new No1 signed in the market, with talks now ongoing between the goalie’s representatives and United chiefs.

The ace is keen to not see his minutes drop, a scenario that is highly likely if United end up moving for a keeper.

The likes of Inter Milan’s Andre Onana, Brentford’s David Raya and Porto’s Diogo Costa are reported targets.

Should he leave United, De Gea already has several options in Saudi Arabia.

But there could be offers from Europe too, with clubs in Spain likely to be interested.

If De Gea does stay at United, he will have to take a cut on his £375,000-a-week wages.

And reports claim he could now end up on just a fraction of that figure after United withdrew their initial contract offer.

It’s believed the stopper had previously put pen to paper on a new deal containing a smaller salary.

However, United eventually declined to sign their end of the contract.

And a second new proposal has now been sent to De Gea with an even lower pay packet.
