THE January transfer window is OPEN and deals are being completed all over Europe.
Leicester are narrowing their sights on Norwich’s Todd Cantwell with the Canaries wanting around £15million for the star whose contract expires in the summer.
SunSport can exclusively reveal Liverpool are eyeing a £60m deal for Porto’s Colombian winger Luis Diaz.
And the Reds are also interested in Barcelona’s wonderkid Gavi and are prepared to pay him 50 TIMES his current salary at the Nou Camp.
Philippe Coutinho has completed a return to the Premier League.
Barcelona have accepted a loan offer from Aston Villa, bringing the former Liverpool star back to England.
And Erling Haaland is a summer target for Real Madrid, who are confident they can land both him and Kylian Mbappe.
Meanwhile the big Premier League clubs are taking part in the FA Cup third round.
The transfer window opened on January 1, and closes on the 31st at 11pm.
Clubs will be able to sign and sell players during that time, with the Premier League’s winter break due to take place while the final week of the window is going on.

Dest buy
Barcelona ace Sergino Dest could be available for €40million (£33.4m) in January.
That is according to El Nacional, who report that Dest has been linked with Arsenal as well as Chelsea.
In fact, Blues supremo Roman Abramovich has already offered €30m (£25m) for the full-back.
The west Londoners see the USA international as the perfect candidate to fill in for the injured Ben Chilwell, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season
Bele ache
Barcelona boss Xavi was left ‘speechless’ after Ousmane Dembele demanded £700,000-a-week to sign a new deal.
That is according to Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenburg, who claims Dembele made that request amid links with Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Newcastle and Arsenal.
The forward is out of contract at the end of the season and can negotiate with clubs outside of Spain this month.
But Barca remain hopeful they can convince the France international to extend his stay at the Nou Camp
Ram it home
Arsenal have joined the transfer war to sign Aaron Ramsey and bring him back to the Emirates.
Ramsey has been told he can leave Juventus in January and is eyeing a return to the Premier League.
Burnley confirmed their interest in the midfielder, with Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Everton also keen.
Now the Gunners are reportedly in the chase to sign the Wales international, who left them in 2019.
That is according to Italian reporter Rudy Galetti, who wrote: “Juventus, #Ramsey transfer: #Newcastle and #CrystalPalace options remain valid, still interested in the midfielder.
“Further back – at the moment – the positions of #Everton and #Arsenal”
Double trouble
Manchester City are targeting Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic and Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak.
That is according to The Athletic, whose report poses as a major blow for Arsenal who are keeping tabs on both Vlahovic and Isak.
City see both highly-rated centre-forwards as alternatives to Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland.
The Gunners will need to strengthen in attack as Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s deal runs out in June, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been frozen out of the squad due to a disciplinary breach
Coman blow
Manchester United have suffered a transfer blow as Bayern Munich ace Kingsley Coman is set to sign a new contract with the German champions.
Coman’s deal expires in June 2023 and that attracted interest from United as well as Liverpool, according to Manchester Evening News.
The forward appeared unlikely to pen a new contract with Bayern but the Bavarians are unwilling to lose another major star for free like they did with David Alaba.
The France international has reportedly demanded €20million (£16.7m) per season to remain with the Bundesliga giants
Pochettino close?
Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino’s move to Manchester United is “almost done”.
That is according to French journalist Dominique Severac, who told La Chaîne L’Équipe that Pochettino’s arrival at Old Trafford is close.
He said: “He won’t be able to say anything to each other before the end of the season, but for me, it’s almost done!.
“I’m telling you what I know. Manchester United wants him, and he wants to go (…) So we are not far from an agreement!”
Saka rumours
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta dismissed rumours linking Bukayo Saka to a shock move to Liverpool.
Arteta claimed this sort of talk works as a compliment for Saka and his “really good work”.
The Spanish head coach said: “I think that’s great news when you have a lot of talk and people that are willing for your players it’s really good.
“It means they should be proud because they are doing really good work”
FA Cup results
Chelsea went through to the FA Cup’s fourth round, while Newcastle suffered a shock elimination.
Here are today’s FA Cup results:
Chelsea 5-1 Chesterfield
Chelsea qualified for the FA Cup’s fourth round after thrashing Chesterfield at Stamford Bridge.
Timo Werner opened the scoring after just six minutes with Callum Hudson-Odoi doubling the west Londoners’ lead 12 minutes later.
The returning Romelu Lukaku made it three on 20 minutes and Andreas Christensen netted the fourth in the 39th minute.
Hakim Ziyech scored from the penalty spot on 55 minutes and Akwasi Asante registered a consolation strike 10 minutes before full-time
Haaland warning
Borussia Dortmund chief executive officer Hans-Joachim Watzke has ruled out the possibility of Erling Haaland leaving this month.
Haaland has been linked with Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Watzke told Der Speigel : “Haaland will not leave in January. No way.
“Who accepts to sell a top European striker during the winter break when they don’t have to?
“Next year? Of course, it will be difficult to keep him. Nevertheless we want to and we’ll try”
Vlahovic on Conte
Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic would ‘love’ to play under Tottenham manager Antonio Conte.
Vlahovic is a major Arsenal and Tottenham target amid the ongoing January transfer window.
According to 90Min, the centre-forward is a big fan of Spurs boss Conte and would like to join forces with him one day.
The Serbia international, though, is willing to wait until the summer to move away from the Viola
Dembele update
Barcelona are already getting ready for life without Ousmane Dembele, who has been linked with Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle.
According to Sport, Barca are considering a move for Wolves star Adama Traore should Dembele depart from the Nou Camp this month.
The forward’s deal with the Blaugrana runs out in the summer and is free to discuss with European teams during the January transfer window.
Dembele appears unlikely to put pen to paper on a new contract with the Catalan giants
Chelsea 4-0 Chesterfield
Chelsea are cruising in their FA Cup third-round tie against Chesterfield at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are 4-0 up and on their way to the fourth round of the competition, unless something dramatic happens in the second half.
Timo Werner opened the scoring after just six minutes with Callum Hudson-Odoi doubling the west Londoners’ lead 12 minutes later.
The returning Romelu Lukaku made it three on 20 minutes and Andreas Christensen netted the fourth in the 39th minute
Rashford hits back
Manchester United star Marcus Rashford addressed rumours of unrest at Old Trafford and reports that the players have lost faith in interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Rashford tweeted a long post that read: “I read something earlier that I’d been quiet on here but what can I say that will make this better other than showing you all on the pitch?
“We’ve all been disappointed with recent performances and we’ve been as disappointed with the news coverage questioning our commitment to not only the manager and the coaching staff but the club.
“I have endless respect for both and I’m looking forward to bettering my game under the staff at Manchester United.
“I’m not sulking, I’m not unhappy, am I disappointed in some of my recent performances? Of course I am. I’m my own biggest critic.
“It’s been a tough start but I’m determined to prove my worth. My dedication and my desire to be here should never be in question. I love this club”
Haaland twist
Manchester United have reportedly pulled out of the transfer race for Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland after discovering he wants to join Real Madrid.
That shocking report comes from the Daily Star, who claim that United have conceded defeat in an effort to sign Haaland ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have been major admirers of the star striker and interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who will become a consultant in the summer, really wants to sign him.
However, there is still intense competition regardless as Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool have also been linked with the Norway international
Top Pog
Manchester United have offered Paul Pogba a new deal worth a whopping £500,000 per week.
Pogba’s deal runs out in the summer, when he will be free to talk with clubs across Europe about a potential move.
The star midfielder is being monitored by Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and former club Juventus during the January transfer window.
SunSport understands he has not yet decided whether he will put pen to paper on fresh terms with the club.
Red Devils sources fear the France international will leave, but the new deal is around £100,000 more than the 28-year-old is expected to get across Europe.
It would make Pogba the highest paid player in Premier League history, on a basic salary of around £400,000 a week before add-ons
Newcastle out
Newcastle have been eliminated from the FA Cup after losing 1-0 to Cambridge at St James’ Park.
The League One side pulled off a shocker in the third round of the competition thanks to Joe Ironside’s winner on 56 minutes.
This adds to the Magpies’ misery as the team continues to struggle despite the Saudi-led £300million takeover earlier this season.
The Toon are already facing a stiff relegation battle as they have won one and lost 10 out of 19 Premier League matches this term.
January signing Kieran Trippier made his debut as he started for Eddie Howe’s side
Howe dare you
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe insists star signing Kieran Trippier has not joined for the money.
Howe said: “Kieran hasn’t come for the financial benefits of the contract.
“He’s come for the club and for the challenge that the team faces at this time, but also for the longer term vision. That’s a massive thing for the club.
“And hopefully with his signing other players around the world will look at that and share his dream and vision.
“I didn’t have to work hard to convince him – Newcastle United has a huge pull.
“He is a really unique character and was very, very motivated by the position we are in.
“That might sound strange but he was motivated by the challenge. He wants to come in and help the team survive”
Erl’s court
Borussia Dortmund will make one last-ditch effort to persuade Erling Haaland to extend his stay with them beyond the summer.
Dortmund want Haaland’s future to be decided by the next few weeks rather than dragging on indefinitely until the summer transfer window.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are ready to pounce for the star striker, who has a £64 million release clause that activates in June.
The Norway international has also been linked with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl said: “We will sit down with Erling and his team over the next few weeks and discuss the situation.
“It would be good if the situation does not drag on forever
“He is in very good hands at Dortmund and we as a club can continue to be a good option for him”
Gavi reminder
Liverpool are reportedly set to offer Barcelona wonderkid Gavi 50 times more per week wages to land him.
Despite making just four top-flight appearances, he has already convinced Reds manager Jurgen Klopp to try and make a swoop for him.
The midfielder is currently earning around £1,600-a-week at the Nou Camp.
According to El Nacional, however, the Merseysiders are prepared to pay him £80,000-a-week in order to secure his signature.
The Spanish outlet also states that the 17-year-old sees his future at Barca.
However, the Masia graduate’s release clause remains at a relatively low £41.7million and the financially-stricken Blaugrana could be tempted to cash in on him
Messi to miss PSG clash
Lionel Messi will miss Paris Saint-Germain’s clash with Lyon this weekend – despite no longer having Covid.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner tested positive for the virus last week after a trip back home to Argentina.
The 34-year-old returned to Paris this week after producing a negative test but won’t be part of PSG’s squad for their trip to Lyon tomorrow.
A club statement read: “Lionel Messi will continue his post-COVID individual protocol in the coming days.”
Messi’s positive Covid test came after he was spotted singing and dancing with his wife Antonella at a party in their homeland.
Maitland-Niles a Roma player
Here are some snaps of Ainsley Maitland-Niles in his new threads.
Done deal – Maitland-Niles to Roma
Arsenal have officially confirmed Ainsley Maitland-Niles has joined Roma on loan for the rest of the season.
The deal does not include the option to buy, and comes after the 24-year-old has made just two Premier League starts this campaign.
Having spent north of £30million on Tammy Abraham in the summer, Roma will have to raise funds through player sales in order to afford a permanent move at a later date.
Maitland-Niles joins compatriots Abraham and Chris Smalling in the Italian capital.
Done deal – Tuanzebe to Napoli
Serie A side Napoli have confirmed the signing of Axel Tuanzebe on loan for the rest of the season.
He has successfully completed a medical with the club and could make his against Sampdoria next Wednesday
Napoli will pay United a £500,000 loan fee with an extra £500k potentially to be paid for bonuses, reports transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
The switch to Napoli means Tuanzebe’s season-long loan deal at Aston Villa will come to an end – despite previously wanting to make his stay permanent at Villa Park.
Arsenal ‘in talks’ with Dembele
The Gunners are reportedly in talks with Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.
Dembele is out-of-contract at the end of the season, and free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a new club.
Ian McGarry told the Transfer Window Podcast that discussions are ongoing, with Dembele yet to pen a new deal at the Nou Camp.
Both Manchester United and Newcastle have previously been linked with the Frenchman, as have Liverpool.
And his agents are said to be eager for the player to move on in order to secure him a bumper new deal, as well as a hefty commission fee that goes with it.
