Will Romelu Lukaku make his Chelsea debut against Arsenal this weekend?

Romelu Lukaku could be in line to make his second Chelsea debut this weekend when they take on London rivals Arsenal.

The Belgian striker completed his move to Stamford Bridge on Thursday after completing a deal worth a club-record £97.5million from Inter Milan.

Lukaku first moved to West London in the summer of 2011 and spent three years with the club but was limited to just 15 first team appearances as the young frontman struggled to break into the first team fold.

After moving to Everton in 2014, the striker has rebuilt his career and enjoyed fruitful spells with the likes of Manchester United and most recently Inter Milan.

However, he’s now revealed it was always a dream to head back to the Blues to play a central role for the club whom he supported as a child.

He said: “I’m happy and blessed to be back at this wonderful club.

“It’s been a long journey for me: I came here as a kid who had a lot to learn, now I’m coming back with a lot of experience and more mature.

“The relationship I have with this club means so much to me, as you know. I have supported Chelsea as a kid and now to be back and try to help them win more titles is an amazing feeling.

“The way the club is going fits my ambitions perfectly at 28 and just coming off winning Serie A. I think this opportunity comes at the right time and hopefully we can have a lot of success together.

“Since I left Chelsea, it’s been a long journey with a lot of ups and downs, but these experiences made me strong and the challenge is to try to help the team win some more trophies. I can’t wait to get started and to help the club achieve more success.”

While Saturday’s 3-0 victory against Crystal Palace came too soon for Lukaku to make his debut, he could be set to make a big impact in this weekend’s London derby.

Chelsea travel to take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm) and will be hoping to make it back-to-back victories in the Premier League as they look to get their title push off to the perfect start.

However, Lukaku is set to come up against a Gunners’ side who have a real point to prove.

Mikel Arteta’s side fell to a surprise defeat against newly-promoted Brentford on Friday night, with Arsenal’s defence coming in for particular criticism.

The scrutiny will be music to Lukaku’s ears as he looks to get his second spell with Chelsea off to the perfect start against one of their closest rivals.
